Intent, Implementation and Impact

Intent

In our lessons children are all given the opportunity to explore, discuss, become fluent, to reason and problem solve through using a variety of representations and methods to achieve this.

Children are encouraged to develop their maths vocabulary and deepen their learning through discussion and exploration of tasks ensuring that challenge is aimed at depth of knowledge while aiming to support children to make progress through the content at a similar pace.

Implementation

Using a maths mastery lesson structure (utilising the Maths- No Problem scheme and Mastering Number for EYFS) we offer all of our children a chance to discuss, explore and understand the topics. The mastery approach to lessons offers a greater emphasis on discussion and collaborative learning while engaging all the children. This also provides opportunities to push children to make good progress across the maths curriculum.

Impact

Work in children's Maths books signify a varied and engaging structure to lessons and highlight the impact of our teaching for mastery approach. Varied methods are evident alongside evidence of an effective lesson structure that provides children with opportunities to use manipulatives and pictures to access their learning. All year groups provide lessons with a clear, real-world context that brings maths to life.

Our most recent KS2 SATs results from July 2024 show that children are also achieving about the national average in Mathematics. See link below for the KS2 SATs results for 2024.
