Today in the lesson we're going to find out how a little can go a long way - from one of the miracles that the Bible tells us Jesus performed during the three years he spent preaching and teaching. Jesus knew the importance of sharing and offering what little we have to help others. And in the story we're going to watch how he used someone to help him that no one expected.

What do you think we can learn from the story?  Jesus used one person with the smallest amount of food to perform one of his biggest miracles.
Jesus used the small amount of food to perform a miracle because he wanted to show people that something amazing can come out of something small.
Can you think of anytime in your life when you have felt too small or too weak to do something..?
There are big issues in the world at the moment. Captain Sir Tom More, who if you remember did laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS, managed to raise 33 million pounds. He was 99 when he started, reaching 100 when he finished, and despite his age thought he could do something for others.

Can you think of something you can do, no matter how small, that might make a difference to others? That is the miracle of this story.

Your main task is to watch a clip of the story, complete a cloze paragraph of it and then turn the story into a news report. (This could be typed or handwritten.)

As a news report, you will need to include the following things:

  • a short snappy headline

  • an introduction which answers the 5 key questions about the story - who, what, when, where and why

  • extra paragraphs describing the when, where and what in more detail

  • three quotes from people who were there eg a disciple, Jesus and a person in the crowd (each one starts a new paragraph and they would be spread throughout the report

  • pictures with a suitable caption

Remember that a news report should be written formally and in the past tense as it has already happened.
