Year 1 St Christopher
Saint Christopher was a very tall and strong man who committed himself to Jesus. He asked another Christian man how he could better follow Jesus’ footsteps. The man told him that because he was so tall and strong, he would be perfect at helping travellers to cross a dangerous river. One day a child asked to ride on Christopher's shoulders across the river, but the infant seemed to grow heavier and heavier with every step. When they arrived on the opposite shore, the child identified himself as Jesus Christ, telling Christopher that he had just carried the weight of the world. Saint Christopher became one of the most popular patron saints for travellers in the Middle Ages. Small images of him are often worn around the neck, on a bracelet, carried in a pocket, or placed in vehicles by Christians, to protect them when they are travelling. In Year One, the children begin their journey from reception into more formal learning.
In year one, our R.E. topics are as follows:
The Way, the Truth and the Life
Spring 1 - Families and Celebrations
Spring 2 - Following Jesus
