It is essential that your child reads to an adult frequently (ideally every day) for at least 10 minutes. Please feel free to communicate with us, and comment on their reading, in their Reading Record book.
PHONICS BOOKS: Your child will be given a reading book each week that corresponds with the phonetic sounds that they have been learning that week. They should read these to consolidate the week's learning.
FREE-READ BOOKS: These books are to help develop your child's vocabulary and interest in stories and can be accessed alongside their phonics book. Your child has chosen a reading book which is at their correct reading level. Some books may take your child multiple evenings to complete depending on difficulty, length of the book and how long they read for. Once they have finished reading the whole book, they can exchange it for a new book the next day in school.
Homework tasks will be set on a Friday through parentmail. These are activities for you to complete at home. We do not need evidence of this to be handed into school as the homework tasks will be reinforcement of what your child has been learning in school that week.
Many parents have asked me about additional ways to support their child at home. Below are links to download documents that are useful for aiding your child's reading comprehension, spelling and writing.
