Reading
It is essential that your child reads to an adult frequently (ideally every day) for at least 10 minutes. Please feel free to communicate with us, and comment on their reading, in their Reading Record book.
PHONICS BOOKS: Your child will be given a reading book each week that corresponds with the phonetic sounds that they have been learning that week. They should read these to consolidate the week's learning.
SHARING BOOKS: To help develop your child's vocabulary and interest in stories, you can supplement your their reading with other books from home, the class reading corner or even your local library! Feel free to make a note of these in your child’s reading log to document their reading journey. Any books that are not yet decodable for the children will be regarded a sharing book. These are books for you to read with your child, helping us to instil a love of reading from the very beginning of their reading journey. These could be read together with your child reading the words they are able to decode or could be read to your child.
Homework Tasks
Homework tasks will be set on a Friday on the school website. These are activities for you to complete at home. We do not need evidence of this to be handed into school as the homework tasks will be reinforcement of what your child has been learning in school that week.
