Welcome to the St Alban's Catholic Primary School website!

Thursday

Welcome back Year 6! We hope you enjoy today's lessons. You will be doing percentages in maths, apostrophes for possession and ie spellings in English. In the afternoon, we will be starting our new Geography topic of Protecting the Planet. This is a really interesting subject and very topical at the moment. Lots of people like David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg have been campaigning about climate change and its impact upon the Earth. This topic will help you to understand the problems the world faces. At the end of the day, you will have the chance to clap out rhythms with a music teacher on the Oak Academy. Given that we aren't allowed to sing in school at the moment, this will be your chance to try some out at home and will end the day with a bit of fun. Do your best and work hard!

10.00 - 10.30  SPELLINGS

These are the spellings you were practising yesterday:

grief, chief, niece, fiend, convenience, shriek, believe, achieve, mischievous, friend, siege

Write each one in a sentence preferably a complex one with a subordinate clause.

eg Although a shriek sounded from the dark cupboard, nobody stirred or even glanced in that direction.

Although is a subordinating conjunction so it creates a subordinate clause at the start of the sentence. Do you see?

Other subordinating conjunctions are: if, since, when, while, although, as, before, after, because, until

11.00 - 12.00 ENGLISH

Today we are looking at apostrophes. They are tricky little blighters so work through the powerpoint carefully and write down the answers to all the pages on a jotter BEFORE you try the worksheets.

They seem really simple but you can quickly go wrong.

Then complete the worksheets. Most can be written on but some need writing out into a book.

12.00 - 12.30   Reading for pleasure

Pick up any book - story or non-fiction - and find a comfortable place to read.

12.30 - 1.30  LUNCHTIME

1.30 - 2.30  GEOGRAPHY

Our new topic for this half term is Protecting the Planet.

You have probably watched lots of programmes lately which have been discussing this topic and you will start this lesson by watching a video linked to David Attenborough's Blue Planet documentary.

It is very informative and you will definitely enjoy watching it.

Afterwards there are two tasks.

One involves designing and making a sculpture from recycled materials. Please send in a photo so that we can share it with the class. The second task asks you to create an information poster all about the subject. Remember to make it as colourful and decorative as possible.

These activities may take you some time, so feel free to move other lessons around to suit.

2.30 - 3.15 MUSIC
