What are we learning this week?

Week commencing 10th May 2021  

In Phonics we will learn the new grapheme to phoneme correspondences for trigraphs ‘air’ and ‘ure’.  

In Maths, we are continuing to learn about adding and taking away through ‘first, then, now stories’ and the use of ten frames or number tracks.

In Literacy, we will be thinking about what we can see, hear, smell and feel in Springtime. We will then write our own Spring senses poem.  

On Thursday, it is Ascension Day. In RE we will learn about Jesus’ ascension into Heaven.  

Week commencing 4th May 2021  

In Phonics we will learn the new grapheme to phoneme correspondences ‘oi’  (boil)  and  ‘ear’  (beard).

In Maths, we will focus on counting on, adding more and telling first, then and now stories about something being added.

We will also be learning about the parts of a plant and what a plant needs to live.

On Friday, we will come together in a Collective Worship based on the story of The Road to Emmaus.   

Week commencing 19th April 2021  

Phonics:  Mrs Bridge’s group will be revisiting and consolidating their knowledge of the grapheme to phoneme correspondences ‘j’, ‘v’, ‘w’, ‘x’, ‘y’ and the tricky words ‘me’, ‘we’, ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘be’. 

Mrs Taylor and Miss Rushton’s groups will learn the new grapheme to phoneme correspondences ‘ar’ and ‘or’ and the tricky word: they.

RE: We will learn about what happened on that very first Easter Sunday.   

 

This week, we will also learn about Earth Day on the 22nd April and think about what actions we can take to help to protect our planet.  

Week commencing 29th March 2021

In Phonics, we are reviewing the phonemes ‘oo’ and ‘oo’ and the tricky words ‘was’ and ‘you’.  We will be looking at a phoneme per day and practising reading and writing these phonemes within words and sentences. 

 

 In Maths, we will be consolidating our learning so far, within numbers to 10 and estimation.https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/spring-consolidation-week-3/ 

 

In RE, we will be exploring the events of Holy Week including Palm Sunday, The Last Supper and Good Friday. 

 

Week commencing 22nd  March 2021 

In Phonics, we are reviewing the phonemes ng, ai, ee, igh, oa.  We will be looking at a phoneme per day and practising reading and writing these phonemes within words and sentences. 

 

In Maths, we will be consolidating our learning so far, within numbers to 10. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/spring-consolidation-week-2/ 

 

In Literacy, we will continue our learning with the story of The Enormous Turnip in our Talk for Writing sessions. We will 'innovate' the story to create our own version with new characters and a different vegetable!  

 

In RE, we will be exploring the concept of forgiveness and we will learn about the time when Peter denied Jesus three times, but Jesus forgave him. In PE, we will keep with this theme, and learn a dance to show “breaking up” and “making up” with our friends. 

Week commencing 15th March 2021

In Phonics, we are reviewing the phonemes z / zz, qu, ch, sh, th. We will be looking at a phoneme per day and practising reading and writing these phonemes within words and sentences.

 

In Maths, we will be consolidating our learning so far, within numbers to 10.

In Literacy, we will be learning the story of The Enormous Turnip off by heart in our Talk for Writing sessions. Next week, we will 'innovate' the story to create our own version with new characters and a different vegetable! 

 

In RE, we will be celebrating the week of St. Joseph and finding out more about him. We will also take part in a Collective Worship based on the bible story of Zacchaeus.
