8:50-9:10 - Guided Reading

As well as accessing ebooks through Oxford Owl (link below), there are some great apps to help with reading, such as Reading Eggs and Teach Your Monster to Read (the computer version of this is free). Spend 20 minutes enjoying a good book that you have got at home, an ebook or one of the reading apps.

In our Geography topic ‘People and their Communities’ we have already looked at our local area, and by the coast. Today we will be exploring the Amazon Rainforest and finding out about what it would be like to be there by going on a virtual trip! Whilst you are watching the informative clips, make some notes about what is different in the rainforest to where we live. Eg. weather, animals, temperature etc.

Once you have finished, you are going to imagine that you are in the rainforest and you are sending a postcard to your teachers and friends back at school. We’ve never been to the rainforest before. Can you tell us what it is like and what you have seen? Use your notes about what is different to tell us all of the exciting things you have noticed. After writing your postcard, you can design the front of it by drawing a rainforest scene for us to see.
