During our time in year one, we have discussed what seasons are. On the 5th October, we talked about the season of autumn in school. We went outside and collected various objects that we thought reflected this season. On the 5th October the temperature was 14 degrees in Macclesfield, and we all needed our jumpers and coats on at break time.

We are now no longer in the season of autumn, we are in winter. Think about what you know about the season of winter - what clothes do we wear? What food do we eat? What animals might you see? Can you find out what the temperature is today? If you don't have a thermometer then you could always check a weather forecast website!

If you are able to, go into your garden or go for a walk and look out for signs of winter. Are the colours outside the same as in autumn? How does it feel outside? How do things look?

Complete the winter acrostic poem activity below by thinking of different words or phrases to do with winter for each line of the poem.

S - Slippery ice

N - Noses turning red

O - Outside it is bitterly cold

W - Woolly jumpers help to keep us warm.
